Fall suggestions for happy walks! (click for more)

Here in New England the days are getting shorter and that means it is getting darker outside earlier. Here are a few of our favorite things for fall.

Pet blinkers. This bright little light attaches on your dogs collar, right next to your dogs id tags and blinks. With a simple push of a button, you are visible to drivers, pedestrians and even other dogs, who surely will wonder why that dog is blinking and they are not. These little lights come in many colors and two sizes, small and large. Some people prefer
to put blinkers on their leash for added blinkability, yes
that is a word…as of now. Blink your way to a safer nighttime walk.

Ruff Wear Track Jacket. Put this on your dog and blaze new trails, even if it is just around the neighborhood. Can you say Orange? This day-glow orange vest is great for high visibility and getting noticed by a lot of people, it’s a real head turner. Features include Scotchlite for reflective purposes and water resistant for rainy purposes. It comes in 3 sizes, small, medium and large. This vest is good for hiking, walking in the woods or just a nighttime stroll down Main Street. It is light and easy to put on the dog, which is high on our list of priorities. This vest gives new meaning to the color Orange. Just be happy the dog has to wear it and not you.

Liver Biscotti. To hurry things along on these chilly nights, toss a few of these tiny treats in your pocket and you will be back in the house in no time. Good behavior should get a reward, and these little babies work great, even on the most finicky of dogs. These treats stay fresh for a long time, leave some in your jacket pocket and the dog will always be happy to go with you for a walk. It’s you they adore, not the treats you have, honest.

Poop bags. Stock up then get a good holder that attaches to the leash and always be prepared. This has nothing to do with safety but more for your community. Be a good neighbor and pick up after your dog. Grocery bags are the worst thing you can use to pick up poo because they are not biodegradable. Poop Bag brand bags are strong, biodegradable and made in the USA, enough said.

High Tech Flashlight. Calling all geeks. Here is a good way to put your high tech new phone to use. Flashlight Apps. They are handy to use when it is to dark to see what your dog just picked up in his mouth and is now munching happily. Apple and Android have free versions of flashlights in their ap markets. Your partner will now finally understand the reason you needed that three hundred dollar smart phone, it’s for the dog!

Do what it takes to make your daily dog walks more enjoyable. It is good for you and your dog to get out and get some fresh air, even if it is dark, cold and sometimes lonely. Enjoy!
